A highlighted service of The Nanaimo Art Gallery Downtown is the Art Sales and Rental program. We represent over one hundred local and regional artists, many with national and international reputations. Their artwork is available for sale, or can be rented for a small monthly fee which has become a popular way for people to experience original artwork in their homes or places of business.
Renting art is popular because:
• art can be taken home on a trial basis and changed often
• showing local art in your place of business keeps your space interesting and fresh
• renting art supports artists from the Vancouver Island region
• renting art for your business is a tax deductible expense
• up to four months prepaid rental fee can be applied to the price if you do decide to purchase

It is the commitment of the staff and volunteers of the Nanaimo Art Gallery Downtown:
• To provide the Nanaimo Art Gallery with a downtown presence which helps to promote community awareness and support for the arts
• To generate revenue to support the Nanaimo Art Gallery Society with sales and rentals of fine artwork, and sales of gift shop items.
• To provide local and regional artists with a venue for exposure and sales (Art Sales and Rental Program)
• To provide a venue for and generate revenue from other types of community involvement in a ‘Public Art Gallery’ including presentations, workshops, demonstrations, slide shows, art movies, concerts, plays, readings and discussions, gala events and feature art exhibits other than our ASR group.
A public art gallery should offer awareness education and a challenge to the community. The campus gallery does this very well with a system of call for entry- juried and curated shows. We think we need to create a middle ground between what the campus gallery does and what the other galleries in town offer. To this end we will be developing some additional display space and, we are hopeful, a more professional storage system. Our first New Feature Artist Show will be in July 08. |
